Skyscapes

Just over a year ago we moved house from the town centre to a hillside on the edge of town. I now have a top floor study that has views over a valley, and facing west, views of many interesting skies and sunsets. Over the past year I have taken many photographs of the varied views – here is a selection of the more interesting ones.

Vintage Fruit Crate Labels

Having recently uploaded a number of images of American vintage fruit crate labels, I couldn’t help noticing that quite a number featured Native American Indians on them. The tone ranges from the condescending and “humourous” to the dignified. One brand of apples presumably has “Redskin” Anyway, I’ve assembled a few examples here and hope others will find them interesting too.

Cafés of Day Retrospective 2

Not been here for a while. Back in June 2014 I posted “Cafés of Day Retrospective 1” with a little explanation of what it was about. Please take a look. This is part 2 of the series, but don’t worry, I won’t bore you with part three for at least a year and will find other subjects to bore you with instead. So here is “Cafés of Day Retrospective 2”:

Cafés of Day Retrospective 1

Rather than sitting in my studio all day I tend to go out for a bit of walk in the morning, usually to the nearest coffee shop. A while back I started posting on Twitter intentionally boring photographs taken on my iPhone of my coffee cups and of the café interiors, a variation of the much derided photographs of peoples’ lunches posted to Instagram.

As time went on and no doubt nobody was bothering to look at them anymore, I decided to carry on and turn the process into a bit of an art project with some social observation thrown in. So here is a selection of my favourites (so far) from the last two years from coffee shops in England, France and Italy.

California Photo Essay

I thought I’d share a motley variety of images from my travels in California. Most of the photographs I take on my working trips are of landscapes and crop patterns, but I’ll only put a couple of those up here because I don’t think they would be of great interest to others. These are mainly incidental images of details and other landscapes that caught my eye, and some are deliberately quite boring – I like the stillness of the obscure, and also like the quality of old postcards about many of the images.
